The purpose of the East Baton Rouge Parish English as a Second Language (ESL) Program is to help ensure that children who are English Language Learners (ELL), including immigrant children and youth, attain English proficiency, develop high levels of academic attainment in English, and meet the same challenging State academic content and student academic achievement standards as all children are expected to meet.
This is outlined in No Child Left Behind, a federal law to improve education in the U.S.
The ESL program is designed to meet the educational needs of English language learners who possess a language other than English. Full-time Louisiana certified English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructional Specialists provide school site instructional support for teachers of identified English language learners.
